Question : For no particular reason, the calf muscle in my left leg is inflamed/swollen and hurting when I walk. It seems like a muscle pull but I have not really done any activity in the past one week which could cause this. This pain started on Saturday - at least that is when it became discernible enough that I realized that my leg was hurting.

Hi,

Swollen and painful calf is a concerning symptom. It could be related to vascular conditions; but not commonly especially if you have no known past medical conditions / smoking history / use medications. Other causes such as mineral and vitamin deficiency as well musculoskeletal problems could cause this problem.

Without an opportunity to physically examine the affected area and without certain tests, it is difficult to predict specific cause. I will recommend visiting a doctor for detailed examination / evaluation and this should be done at the earliest.

In the meanwhile you should ice the affected area; use pain medications such as ibuprofen twice a day and avoid strenuous physical activities.
