Brief Answer: Non union may be the cause Detailed Answer: Hi Thanks for your query. After going through the detailed description there are few possibilities for having pain and swelling-: 1. Arthodesis (fusion) has not occurred in the joint’s involved leading to pain and swelling. This can be easily confirmed by x ray and physical examination of foot. 2. Infection-If the foot is warm to touch and swollen then following blood investigation are required along with x-ray- - Haemoglobin, Total leukocyte and differential leukocyte count - C reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) 3. Infection and failure of arthodesis 4. Osteoporosis that is severe softening of bone leading to pain and swelling. In the follow up query please send the x-ray picture for better understanding of your suffering along with medicine you are taking. Take care and wish you good health Regards
