Question: I have what seems like Unpeinful enlarged circumvallate papillae.
They have been there for about 10 days. They do seem to get smaller. Is there anything to worry about? How long does it usually take to heal? What is the timeframe after which I need to visit a doctor?

Get the tongue examined. Usually no treatment is required.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. It will help if you can upload a close-up image.

2. Painless enlarged circumvallate papillae are common and are due to a mild glossitis (inflammation of the tongue).

3. There are normal structures noticed for the first time by many patients, If they settle down, no treatment is necessary.

4. This glossitis can occur due to many conditions. The most common are Vitamin B-complex deficiency, anemia (low hemoglobin), hypothyroidism, post nasal drip, acid reflux, viral infections and so on.

5. Get the tongue examined. Healing should take 2-6 weeks.

I hope that I have answered your queries. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
