Question : Hello, I'm 22 years old who's had past experiences with panic attacks. The first time it hit was a couple years ago and it scared me so bad that for about that entire year I spent it in and out of the doctors offices getting every test done under the book all to come up as negative. So I quit going, I also stopped taking my meds which is to treat hypothyroidism. Everything seemed to mellow out. Up until recently. I had a major panic attack about two weeks ago at work completely out of the blue. I was checking out a customer and my left side went completely numb, my mouth went dry, my legs were weak. It took everything I had not to go to the emergency room. I quickly went to the back, sat down and in about an hour it had passed. For the rest of that day though and a couple days after I could feel that I wasn't myself. I was more conscious about things, I also felt that I wasn't in my body, if that makes sense. A few more days passed and everything went back to being okay. Now just recently a couple days ago the same thing happened again at work, I could feel it coming on so i tried to calm myself down but once again it struck me severely. Everything was numb and shaky, my breathing however wasn't affected, and ever since that day my body still doesn't feel right, movements aren't as fluid in my fingers and I have a headache off and on. I'm not sure if this is stress, lack of me taking my medicine or what? I'm just so tired of feeling like this.

Detailed Answer:
I have read over your question carefully. Thank you for being brave and talking about this.
Panic attacks are some of the most uncomfortable feelings people van experience. What you describe is consistent with panic disorder. Panic attacks are very effectively treated with SSRIs such as Zoloft like, Lexapro, or Prozac. I would also mention that if your dose of Synthroid for hypothyroidism is too high, this too can precipitate panic.
My advise to you is to visit a psychiatrist who can prescribe an SSRI. This is a very treatable condition and you will get better.
