Question: I am having trouble breathing-feels like I can't catch my breath and I am breathing quickly. My blood pressure standing is 101\63 and when I lay down it goes to 118/76. Normal for me is 113/70s standing. I have asthma and a panic disorder. Took my inhaler. Once panic set in my Bp jumped to 133/80. Once I settled down it fell again to 104/68. Now feeling very lethargic and only slightly out of breath.Should I be concerned? This seems to happen to me fairly often. Does this sound like anything you have heard of before? I am a 30 yr old female.

Brief Answer:
Go in for spirometry/breathing test.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

Problems with breathing can be anxiety provoking. I have asthma too and know how it can be.

I am not concerned with any of the blood pressures you listed. Panic causes adrenaline and cortisol to be released which raise blood pressure. The vacillations between your pressures are explainable and not abnormal.

I am not sure I understand the time frame of when your trouble breathing started. If it is new and happening now, I would advise that you go in to an urgent care clinic or ER to have your lungs listened to and a spirometry (breathing) test.

The panic attacks can make you feel lethargic afterwards, and so that is explainable, but if you are having lethargy and difficulty breathing, then do go in to be seen, as not getting enough oxygen can cause lethargy too.

I hope this information helps.
