Posted on Wed, 24 Sep 2014
Question: i had contacted you earlier about my pelvis fracture of inferior and superior pubic ramus on the 13th of July 2014(left side) I can walk very well now and do not have much pain while walking. But the fracture on the inferior side has no union so far and the doctors here think it is fine as long as I can walk and do everything.
Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Healing is there.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have seen the X-rays attached. The recent X-ray is showing a callus formation at both the sites of fracture. This is suggestive of an ongoing healing process of the bone. There is no need to worry. The bone seems to be enough strong to bear the weight. You can carry out your daily routine activities.
Avoid any heavy work or an extensive exercise like jumping or jogging.
The complete healing will take place in next 4-5 weeks. But you can continue walking. There is no need to worry. Do add calcium supplements to your diet for an earlier recovery.
I hope this answers your query.

Hello Dr. XXXXXXX
Thanks for your reply. I will continue with my routine activity. But I would like to know if I can sit cross legged and also if I could bend or sit on the floor.
Do you advise taking another X Ray at the end of 12 weeks?
I am taking calcium supplements, but will make it 1000mg per day.
Warm regards XXXXXXX

Also I am planning to go abroad after two months. That would involve lifting my bag from the luggage belt. Do you advise that?

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Yes you can sit cross legged. You can try to sit on the floor but you will need a support to stand up initially. Gradually your muscles will become strong and you will feel normal.
Taking another X-ray at the end of 12 weeks is not actually needed but it will give you a mental satisfaction to see that your bones have healed.
Increasing the calcium intake will help.
After 2 months you will be fit to pick up your luggage from the belt. Do not worry.
Hope my answer is helpful.
