
Suggest Treatment For Peripheral Neuropathy

Question: I have peripheral neuropathy which is not diabetic in origin. My doctor says my blood work shows a protein, I A G....Monoclonal, sorry, that is all I can remember. Can you give me a clue what this may mean? He is referring me to a hematologist for further study, and I have no idea what questions to ask, where to look for more information. Can you direct me ? Or give me a clue what this may mean?

I have gone through your question and understand your concern.
Peripheral neuropathy can be due to many causes apart from diabetes.
Myeloma or dysimmune neuropathy due to abnormal protein deposition in nerves can be a cause.
The investigations for this is immunoelectropheresis for myeloma, urine for bence XXXXXXX protein and light chain assessment.
Other blood investigations and nerve conduction study is required for diagnosis of neuropathy.
Treatment is usually immunomodulator drugs.
