Question : I had an UTI about 10 days ago. My doctor gave me only 5 days of Ciproflaxen-- 500mg X 2 daily.. Shouldn't he have prescribed at least 7 days worth?? I'm still having a little bit of cloudy urine that is a little foamy sometime. Thanks!

1. Ciprofloxacin is a recommended antibiotic for mild to moderate infections like UTI.

2. The usual dose of ciprofloxacin ffor UTI is the following

(i) Acute uncomplicated UTI
(immediate release) 250 mg orally every 12 hours for 3 days
(extended-release) 500 mg orally every 24 hours for 3 days

(ii) Mild to moderate UTI 250 mg orally every 12 hours or 200 mg IV every 12 hours for 7-14 days

(iii) Severe and complicated UTI 500 mg orally every 12 hours or 400 mg IV every 12 hours for 7-14 days

3. Therefore your doctor might have treated you with ciprofloxacin for acute uncomplicated or mild to moderate UTI and keeping in mind your age.
