Question: I have been treating a bladder infection for over 3 months. My urologist has tried 5 different anti-biotics and there is still traces of infection when I test. He says my bladder is not emptying with about 300 cc's still in the bladder. What else can I do? I have back pain.

Brief Answer:
Mostly due to Enlarged Prostate with significant Post Void Residual Urinen

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .

Long standing UTI not responding to antibiotics that you have is mostly due to Enlarged Prostate with significant Post Void Residual Urine (P..V.R).

In a given situation if all your vital parameters are within reasonably normal acceptable limits to undergo surgery I would suggest you to get your enlarged prostate removed by an endoscopic surgery of Trans Urethral Resection of Prostate (T.U.R.P).done .This will help to clear the urinary passage and empty your bladder completely and there by from getting repeated episodes of UTI and will also help to improve quality of life .

You can discuss this modality with your Urologist .

The back pain that you have could be due to secondary stones in kidney which needs to be investigated by doing Ultrasound Scanning of abdomen .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
