Question: Dear Sir/Madam,
My son is hvng cold n fever from last 3 months. I visited our family doctor (he gave medicines from his clinic)but still the cold was not cured. So I went to another doctor and she prescribed following medicine Criz M syrup, Calpol 120, S-Mucolite, Clavituf. I want know if above mentioned medicine s have any sever side effects.
Please make a note that my 3 yr old son is allergic to syrups like mefanorm, meftal, ibugesic. In past his sonography report showed debris in kidney papillae area. However it was later on debris were cleared by taking lots of fluids. No medicine was prescribed at that time. Pls advice on above question.

Brief Answer:
The prescribed medications have no serious side effects

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for asking on this platform

I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the details.
Criz M contains montelukast and cetrizine (both are antiallergic).Calpol contains paracetamol (an antipyratic) and mucolyte S contains ambroxol (mucolytic agent)and salbutamol (a bronchodilator which relieves the spasm of airways).Clavituf is an antibiotic, combination of amoxycillin and clavulinic acid.
You have mentioned that the baby is allergic to mefanorm, meftal both contains mefenemic acid and ibugesic (contains ibuprofen).
Both mefenemic acid and ibugesic are NSAIDS and used as an antipyratic or analgesic.
Here your doctor has prescribed calpol (paracetamol) for fever which is a very sage medicine.
I won't get worried as all theses medications are safe when given in appropriate dosage and there is no significant side effect on kidney or liver.

Again I would like to know whether the baby has persistent fever and cold for 3 months or it improves and recurs again.Criz M (montelukast and cetrizine) is a very effective medication to prevent the recurrence of cold if it is allergic in origin.

Please let me know if you have any more doubts.
Wishing for your baby's speedy recovery.
Regards

Brief Answer:
Respiratory problems are common in early childhood

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for follow up

I want to let you know that respiratory problems are common in early childhood. There can be 6-10 respiratory infection per year. This is due to poor immunity, special chest wall anatomy and increased sensitivity to allergens. Most of these respiratory infections are viral, limited to upper respiratory tract and does not need hospital admission.
As the child grows, the immune system gets stronger and number of infection gets decreased.
As allergy is an important association Criz M helps in decreasing the allergy induced problem.
Cough receptors are sensitive to cold food items or drinks. So it is better to avoid cold items.
I suggest you to get the baby immunised with flu vaccine if he is older than 6 months.
If you find that there is decreased oral acceptance, fever is persisting for 3-4 days or there is breathing problem consult a pediatrician for proper evaluation.

I hope this helps.
I shall be glad to answer if you have any query.
Regards
