Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cold And Fever

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Jan 2017
Question: I've been sick with a cold for about a week. Had a fever of 101 which went away after a day. Went to the doctor and I was prescribed the z-pak and I'm now on day four. I have a ton of drainage and am coughing a lot. What's concerning me is that my teeth and gums are aching a lot. The left side hurts the most. Aching teeth and now it's moved to my jaw. It's affecting both the top and bottom teeth. This has never happened to me before. Do you think the teeth and jaw thing has to do with the sinus infection / cold? I still have another pill to take tomorrow. I've been using sinus irrigation too which seems to help everything drain. Suggestions? Opinion? Thanks

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for your query.
Pain can occur in the teeth of the upper jaw from infection in the maxillary sinus. It would not cause pain in the lower jaw.
If the pain is at the joints where both the jaws meet (temporo mandibular joint ), inflammation in these joints may be involved.
If it persists , it would be good to see a dentist and have yourself examined.
In the meanwhile you could warm saline with a local antiseptic like betadine to clean the gums and teeth and for gargles. Take vitamin C 500 mg once a day as well.

Do get back to me if you have further queries.
