Brief Answer:
Cough may continue for 3-4 weeks after pneumonia

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your question.

From what I understand from your question, you seem to be having pneumonia and you are getting treated with an antibiotic. Sometimes, even if the chest x-ray is clear, the lungs will need some time to heal completely, so that is why your cough continues. Headache and Joint pain are part of the affection of the general condition that pneumonia gives to the body.

So my recommendation is:
-- Drink plenty of fluids to keep hydrated and eat a healthy diet
-- Take painkillers for the headache, an anti-cough medicine if the cough is bothering you. You could use Acetylcisteine 200mg 3 times/day or Carbosystein 375mg 3 times/day. You can find them over the counter in the local pharmacy. They will help soften the secretions stacked in your lungs and relieve the cough.
-- If you have not fever, and you are starting feeling a bit better, that means that you are healing and soon should feel ok.
-- If you have shortness of breath, chest pain, fever, feeling very tired day by day, then you should go back to your doctors who need to rule out other causes of your symptoms and you may need other treatment.

Though, if they said the lungs are clear, the lung will need 3-4 more weeks after the treatment to get regenerated, so you may have cough for that time after.

Hope this is helpful.
