Question: Hello doctor,
My son who's 2.3 years developed cough wit barking sound and I took him to his pediatrician around 15 days back. The doctor gave him levolin 1 mg 3 times for 5 days and montair LC kid once a day for a week. I gave him all the medications for the prescribed time. My doctor even prescribed novomox drops in case the kid developed fever but my son didn't get fever so I didn't put the antibiotics. Though the severity of the cough has come down but it's not completely gone. He coughs very badly in the morning as soon as he wakes up. So today again we took him to his pediatrician and now he suggested us to give asthalin nebulization 2 times a day for 3 days and he also mentioned us to see him again if the cough persists even after that. I'm really worried doctor please I want to know why this cough is lasting for so many days. Please suggest..

Brief Answer:
Upper Respiratory tract infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HealthcareMagic and thanks for putting up the query
Cough is kids is usually due to upper respiratory tract infection. As the symptoms are decreasing as you said without antibiotics, it is probably allergic.
Nebulisation helps kids to get faster relief. Along with this also put nasal drops.
You should get a x-ray chest P A view done of cough doesn't improve on nebulisation. My advice is you should get nebulisation done and wait for another 2 to 3 days before proceeding for any investigations.
If child had any fever or you believe there is thick phlegm..give him antibiotics as prescribed by the paediatrician.
Any further questions are always welcome.
Take care
Thanks and regards
