Brief Answer:
You might require detailed testing like contrast CT chest scan

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

If you had blood in sputum and have been having cough from January 09 then it is important to get back to your doctor and get investigated in detail.

Chest xray is a simple test and since you are having blood in sputum, therefore detailed testing like contrast CT chest scan is recommended.

It is also important to correlate with your blood tests and clinical symptoms like any continuous fever or loss of weight during the past 2 months.

Please do not ignore blood in sputum if you are having cough for 2 months.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.

Brief Answer:
Please watch for blood in sputum over coming days

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

Good to know that the cough is improving.

My previous reply was keeping in mind that the cough is persisting and now you are having blood in sputum.

What I suggested is that even if a chest xray is normal, if you are having persisting symptoms and blood in sputum (usually more than once) then it will help to do a detailed investigation like contrast CT chest.

If the blood in sputum does not happen then getting a CT scan is not urgent but you should closely watch for any more occasions of blood in sputum over the coming days.
