Question : Hi!
My mom had a stomach virus (diarrhea and nausea) last week that lasted from Wednesday to Saturday. Then she went two days with no symptoms and was able to eat. Today her diarrhea has returned with nausea and heartburn after eating. Could this still be from the stomach virus?

Brief Answer:
Information

Detailed Answer:
It is possible that this is still part of the infection that she had. If she used an antidiarrheal during the Wed-Sat. period, that might have stopped the symptoms temporarily and now without medication they are showing themselves again.

Foods that are easier to tolerate with diarrhea are apple sauce, rice, toast, sometimes bananas, and if that goes ok, then non spicy non greasy foods such as baked fish or chicken, and well cooked steamed vegetables (in addition to the other things). Rice, cooked with extra water, for longer period of time than is called for, can help slow things down.

Pepto Bismol may help with the diarrhea and nausea.

Drink plenty of water and coconut water (not coconut milk) is good too.

If this continues past a week, then she should go in to be seen.
