Question : Hi: I have diagnosed allergic rhinitis, and take Flonase and Zyrtec on a daily basis. My runny nose and itching are under control, but I've had a sore throat and headache since Monday (e.g., 4 days), and I'm wondering if it's just a virus. I'm not running a fever, just feeling more tired than normal. I'm 56 years old, in great health.

Brief Answer:
likely a viral illness

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is likely that you have a mild viral upper respiratory tract illness (cough/cold). This would cause your fatigue, sore throat and headache.

In general, viral infections would last 7 to 10 days usually. In some cases if a cough develops, it can potentially last up to 6 weeks.

Fluids, rest along with your normal allergy meds would be appropriate.

If you develop a cough then a cough suppressant can be added. A mucolytic (medication to break up mucus can be used if a wet cough occurs)
Eg bisolvan, mucomyst, guaifenesin

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
