Brief Answer:
Can be due to uric acid or inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The description of your symptoms appear to be due to increased uric acid levels or locking of the knee joint, possibly due to spasm of some of the muscles or some debris within the knee joint.

This should slowly subside with hot fomentation, proper relaxation and regular exercises to improve mobility of the joint.

In case, It does not subside on its own or it is associated with severe pain, and swelling around the joint it could indicate a tear of one of the ligaments within the knee joint.

You might benefit by consulting your orthopedician who can examine you , and order a Knee MRI to know the exact cause and provide the proper treatment for it.
Heat application and use of elastic knee brace is advised for proper knee support at the time of exercise.
Avoid such activities as squatting, kneeling, heavy lifting, climbing, etc.
Adding glucosamine sulfate as supplement and a mild pain killer after consulting your orthopedician may help in relieving your symptoms.

I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
