Suggest Treatment For Persistent Pain In Neck
Question: My husband mentioned yesterday morning his neck hurt, saying he must have slept on it wrong. He was ok during the day, but when he went to bed it hurt him to lie down--the actual leaning back. I tried to rub his neck and it hurt quite a bit at the base when put a little pressure. It was ok once he was resting on the pillow. Just now (the middle of the night) he got up and was in immense pain when he moved. It took him a few minutes to lie back down because any movement hurt so much. The pain is just at the base of his neck. He has no numbness. Any movement at all is very painful.
Brief Answer:
Torticolis
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
This is so called torticolis and happens suddenly usually during the night when neck is involuntary hyperstreched. This is not concerning. You should apply warm compresses on his neck, give nonsteroid painkillers and rest. If there is no improvement in 24 hours you should see doctor and have neck collar for few days. Wish you good health. Regards
