Question : Significant pain in right shoulder. Persistent for 3 weeks. Minimal response to Advil. Tends to flare at night, and no way I can sleep on it. I have thrown a lot (baseball and football) over the years, but very little in the past year.

Brief Answer:
Rotator cuff tear

Detailed Answer:
Hi there

Thanks for the query

It appears that you may be having Rotator cuff tendinitis or tear.

I would advise you to avoid performing overhead activities or lifting weights. Apply hot packs to the affected region. Take pain killers for 5 days. You can wear a shoulder-arm pouch or shoulder immobiliser.

Get an MRI of the affected shoulder to confirm the tear of present. Do upload the MRI for my review.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

After doing extra research, I think you're spot on with rotator cuff injury. I'll start heating today. Can you suggest an Advil regimen? I might take Advil once per month, never taken it regularly. Every four hours seems like a lot! Are push ups bad? They don't seem to hurt while I do them, but I don't want to exacerbate the injury.
I am desperately trying to play in a flag football tourney on 12-26... As a QB! Throwing hurts like a mother right now! Thanks Dr Raghu!
