Suggest Treatment For Persistent Rashes On Legs

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Feb 2016
Question: Hello Dr.
I will be brief.
After a risk , I was desperate.
I had a rash on my legs , below the knees , Which lasted four days .
After 6.5 weeks , I did hiv test, roche modular system Ab / Ag p24 , negative 0.17 .
After 9,5 weeks , I did hiv test, roche modular system Ab / Ag p24 , negative 0.23 . ( Thank God )
1- May be the only symptom of HIV , a rash on the legs, below the knees ?
2- These tests are good ?
3- I need more tests?
4- I can sure that I was not infected ?
5- I really not infected?
Thank you

Brief Answer:
HIV 1 infection ruled out.Rash below knee not specific for HIV.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.
You had mentioned nothing about your marital status and about your sexual activities at present. I would like to know what made you go for HIV test with transient rashes over your legs (below knee)?

Both negative HIV tests done for you (6.5 weeks and 9.5 weeks after the rash or contact) ruled out HIV 1 infection totally. HIV 1 infection is the commonest HIV infection (99%), throughout the world except in certain parts of XXXXXXX Antigen part of 4th generation DUO test will be sensitive and conclusive by 4 weeks. You had these test by 6.5 weeks and 9.5 weeks. So it ruled out HIV 1 infection beyond any doubt. HIV 2 (rare less than 1%) can be rued out by the antibody part of the test which can become conclusive after 12 weeks even though it could be detected earlier by 9 weeks.
Rash below knee is not specific for HIV.
Nothing to worry.

The tests were performed 6.5 weeks and 9.5 weeks after a possible risk ( hiv 1 Ab/Ag hiv 2 ) .

Hi,
Welcome back.
I understood that you are living in Brazil.
HIV tests available in the market all over the world are highly sensitive and specific upto 97%. Moreover you had 4th generation DUO test, that too from Roche modular system. This is reliable up to 99%. So it is definite that you are free from HIV 1 infection beyond any doubt.
