Posted on Mon, 19 Dec 2016
Question: I have had a cough for over a month now that has worsened into like a deep croupy cough. I also have expiratory wheezing now. My concern is I was cleaning out my basement a little over a month ago and was dealing with some moldy items due to a sump pump failure.

Brief Answer:
You seem to be having asthma.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for posting your query on HCM.

From your description, you seem to be having asthma symptoms. Do you have any allergy issues like are you uncomfortable in dust and smoke?

Your symptoms could have been triggered off due to exposure to mould while cleaning your basement and also the cold temperature.

You may take a tablet of montair lc and symbicort inhaler 2 puffs twice a day daily. If no relief, you may take a course of oral steroids after consulting your PCP.

If you have fever along with sputum which is thick and yellow, take a course of antibiotic also, again after consulting your PCP and after getting a chest xray and CBC done.

Avoid dust, smoke, moulds and very cold temperatures.
