Question : My son has had swollen lymph nodes in his neck for months. Both sides have a few but on his left there is a very large one. You can see it when looking at his neck. They are movable and feel kind of soft. He hasn't had any infections lately. He also has developed what looks like little red dots on the skin near the nodes. Like a light pink rash. They dont bother him and he says they are painless. He has asmtha so he always has a cough and wheezing. And 2 summers ago he developed a strange "allergy to the cold"?? His entire body breaks out in hives and welts when hes in cold water or very cold weather. I looked online and it said this could be a manifestation of cancer!I am terrified my son has cancer and no one will take me seriously. My family doctor felt the nodes and all he said was "keep an eye on them" he didnt do any farther tests. I am losing sleep day and night.

Brief Answer:
Need to start a short course of antibiotics.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.

Swollen lymph nodes are quite common in children and most of them will be due to infection/inflammation in the nearby region.

In your cases, the focus of lesion might be in the oral cavity. Look for any dental caries which is the most common cause swollen nodes. Look for enlarged tonsils and infection in the ear.

Start a short course of antibiotics preferably Amoxiclav for five to seven days. Most cases resolve well with empirical antibiotic therapy. You may require a prescription from your local physician for the same.

If the nodes still persist, take him to a pathology and get an FNAC(fine needle aspiration cytology) done to rule out other causes.

The red dots will not be significant and it will go on its own.
Wishing him a good health.
Thanks
