Question : Good evening doctors, this question is about my uncle.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am a male, 61 years. Couple of weeks back, I got fever (it was 102° F, body pain, joint pains & weakness). I consulted my family physician (he is a general practionitioner). He gave tablets for body pain & fever. also gave injection for body pain & fever. Please refer to the attachments (Prescription 1, Prescription 2)
---------------------------------------------------------------
After a week, when body pain didn't reduce, weakness was still there & fever was coming & going, I consulted the same doctor again. He told me to do blood test. Please refer to the attachments (Lab Report 1, Lab Report 2). The doctor told it is a viral fever with joint pains & platelete count was a little low, so he suggested some medicines too. Suggested eating Papaya, Kiwi. I followed that too.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Now after almost 2 weeks, I am still having weakness, feverish feeling, & body pain is still there, slight joint pain. From past 2-3 days, I am not having touch sense (skin feels very rough & if I walk or touch something, I dont feel like I am touching something)
---------------------------------------------------------------
I also visited another doctor (CMH Hospital Bangalore). The doctor told me to do some tests. Please refer to the attachments (Images 1 to 9)
---------------------------------------------------------------
Please go through my question in detail & please verify all the attachments carefully & explain what is wrong & what to be done.

doctors, are u able to view all the attachments (Images 1 to 9) ? I uploaded successfully but now not able to see Images 4, 5, 8. I can only see the below: Prescription 1

If I have to provide any additional details, pls let me know the same too.

Thank you

Brief Answer:
Seems to be post infection status.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I went through the details and the uploaded reports with diligence. Initially complete blood counts taken revealed borderline elevated total counts with higher neutrophil percentage. It also revealed a positive Widal serological markers. Your doctor seems to have advised injectable antibiotic. You did not mention whether or not you were treated with antibiotics (injectable or oral) initially. If yes, how long did you take them.

That being said reports taken 9-10 days later at CMH hospital is essentially normal. I would like to record body temperature and let me know body temperature when you feel feverish.
If temperature is not elevated, the feverish feeling, joint / body aches as well as myalgia are more likely to be post infectious state. It will settle down slowly with proper nutrition and adequate sleep.

I look forwards for the details that I requested for in your follow up post.

Regards

yes. as per the suggestion of my family physician (my initial visit) I have taken injections for 3-4 days (antibiotics & paracetamol).

I haven't checked the temperature when I feel feverish these days but my family members say that body is not too hot. May be due to weakness I feel feverish.

but i didn't understand what is causing less sensation on my hands /legs. I feel skin is having no sensation. when I wash hands or legs I don't feel the hot or cold water. when I walk, I feel my feet r numb

pls explain in detail in these

Brief Answer:
Do not be concerned.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Body temperature above 99 d F is the true way of knowing if you have fever. If body isn't warm, then it isn't fever. Absence of fever in most cases implies there is no active infection / inflammation.

I understand you have various symptoms persisting including the numbness and reduced sensation. Rarely at times in the post infectious stage, nervous functions are affected leading to altered sensation. Steroid medications prescribed to you should take care of the symptoms. You should feel better very soon.

At this point of time, I will not be overly worried. Continue with medications prescribed. Keep yourself hydrated well. You can start multivitamin supplements like zincovit / A to Z which will benefit you.

Watch your progress. Monitor body temperature with a thermometer while you feel feverish. Look out for weakness of limbs / fingers. If any of these symptoms arises, report back to the doctor.

In the nutshell, I strongly believe the symptoms are post infection stage. It will resolve gradually and efficiently. Do not be worried.

Hope I make sense. Let me know if you need clarifications.

thanks for replying

I forgot to ask u something about urine infection. The doctor after reviewing the reports (recent reports) at CMH, told something about urine infection & told to continue medication that he suggested (which was also attached with this query). I didn't understand that when he told about urine infection.

Did u see something about urine infection when u reviewed the reports?

Brief Answer:
Did not see a positive urine infection.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I did not see any reports suggesting urinary tract infection. Though there was an urine culture report which was negative for infection. A negative urine culture report suggest either you do not have an infection or antibiotic used has treated the infection. That being said, I did not see antibiotic medications except for the one used by your earlier doctor. And the antibiotic was used earlier to treated enteric (typhoid) infection and not urinary tract infection.

In a nutshell, I did not see any reports or treatment for urinary infection.

Hope I am clear. Let me know if you need any more information.
