Suggest Treatment For Pharyngeal Candidiasis

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Oct 2014
Question: I have been suffering from a pain in my throat and was detected with candida albicans in my mouth. after a local treatment with amphomoronal B which was apparently not successful (I was again tested positive last week) I am now prescribed with Itraconazole. my doctors prescription however does not match the instruction leaflet of the medicine. besides, it says that the medicine will be less absorbed by the stomach when you take PPIs. I am on Pantoprazole 40mg / day. the Itraconazole was given to me in tablets. I am glad to receive a proper instruction on how to take this medicine in order to get rid of this fungus. for your information, just by taking a look into my mouth there is not much to see of candida albicans, I have some red spots in the pharynx and some white spots at the very end of my tongue which I can move away with my toothbrush. thank you

Hi

Welcome to the forum and thanks for your query .
Since you have been diagnosed with or and pharyngeal candidiasis, it is very important that you take the medicine correctly so as to completely cure the infection .
Itraconazole needs acid in the stomach for absorption. That is why it is advised to an taken immediately after meals .
Now since you are on antacids , you should take Itraconazole at least two hours after your dosage of antacid or you can take it two hours earlier also .
So the best way to go about it would be that you take your antacid followed by food after two hours and take Itraconazole immediately after meals .
Also it is important to the the medicine at the same time regularly for better results.
