Question: My daughter hit the side of her face on the coffee table 2 days ago. The wound was deep so she had three stitches put in. The wound is right on the side of her right eye about a 1/2 inch from the corner of her eye. Under her eye is a little puffy, but her right cheek is very pink and puffy. It's not hot to the touch and she doesn't have a fever. The stitched area looks good. She is actually currently on amoxicillin because she was getting a sinus infection, a couple days before the accident which has cleared up. Is the pink puffy cheek normal? Or should I be worried about infection?

Brief Answer:
Shouldn't be an infection.

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Judging from that description though I do not think there is an infection at play, at least not an infection from the wound. Local temperature and pain are two of the main signs of an infection and fortunately you have checked those to be absent. An infection from the wound would have the wound as its center and the wound looks fine from the photo.
As to what it actually is it can't be said with certainty perhaps it's a tooth coming out or some other teeth issue. The so called slapped cheek disease would be another hypothesis but that usually involves both cheeks and has some low grade fever. But I as long as there is no fever, newly appearing pain or other symptoms I wouldn't be alarmed.

I hope to have been of help

Yes thank you. I also spoke with a nurse friend and she stated that the pinkness could be from the impact since she is young and has tender skin. Thank you very much for your help.
