Question: Hello Doctor. Greetings... My name is XXXX and i have recently contacted over email wrt dry skin patches and you have recommended below details. "Thanks for the pictures. I could see dry scaly, oval patches all over your back, arranged along the ribs in a christmas tree pattern, That is classical of Pityriasis rosea. If I was the treating doctor, I would have manage it with a topical moderately potent steroid e.g mometasone furoate cream, twice daily for 2 weeks." I started applying the cream but no progress at all and the dryness is spreading to the stomach, hands and legs. however there is not itching sensation. Please suggest.

Brief Answer: Pityriasis rosea Detailed Answer: Hi. I have gone through your pictures once again and no doubt it is Pityriasis rosea. There can be 1 or 2 recurrent episodes/ new crops of pityriasis rosea. New patches may appear, therefore it might appear as if it is spreading. But they need to be managed similarly as the disease is still evolving. The existing patches would need 2 weeks to resolve while you use the cream. I would advice that you mix the steroid cream (mometasone furoate) with a moisturizing cream in an equal proportion (1:1) and apply it over the affected area twice daily. Surely you would notice improvement in another week or 10 days. regards
