Suggest Treatment For Post Orgasmic Illness

Question: Hi, me and my husband are having all symptoms that seem the same as Candida Overgrowth (numbness in arms/feet, tingling, depression, mood swings, heavy brain fog, etc.)... the worst part is that it gets worse every time we have an intercourse, as if it is strictly related to that.
He had/has athlete's foot for a very long time.

We have been feeling sick for over a year now (or more? But feel it stronger now). We lived in Italy and run a general blood ans stool.
We moved to the States a year ago and have no insurance at the moment. We got only tested for STDs and nothing came up.
His athlete's foot seems to be clearing up... (after all the supplements plus foot creams used) but after an intercourse he feels sick again, for the next coming 2 days...

We checked for STDs, we had a general blood and stool test. Nothing came up. I am thinking that I might have some vaginal bacteria that might keep making him sick? We tried candida, parasites, colon cleanses.... but every time we have an intercourse we feel sick again.

My husband feels it more than me. But I am definitely suffering from brain fogs, memory loss, difficulty focusing.. and lately I have numbness in my arms almost every day when I wake up (rarely during the day, fee tingling too).

I would like to run some more specific tests but have no idea where to start and would like to avoid just wasting money (no insurance!). What type of test would you suggest? We are kind of desperate... we really don't understand what is going on...

I have asked doctors before and got no answers or suggestions about having lack of vitamin D or thyroid problems...
I need to do some real testing... but I don't know where to start without wasting a lot of money without finding a solution.

All symptoms seems related to Candida Overgrowth, all of them... but it should not be related to sex. Candida Overgrowth does not seem to make people sick after each intercourse :(

Brief Answer:
Please get the tests done

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query. I think your husband is suffering from post orgasmic illness. It is due to allergic reaction to sperms, though exact etiology is not established. In addition he has significant anxiety with perhaps reduced testosterone level. I think you dont need a lot of tests. Please get a Serum Testosterone (Total), SHBG, Serum Albumin and a screening for diabetes. You don't need to spend a XXXXXXX on assessment for anxiety . Download YBOC-S (Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale) for OCD and Hamilton's rating scale for anxiety. Please revert back after you have got the results.

Hi, no "unfortunately" it is not POI... he is definitely not allergic to his sperm... 100% sure. On top of that POI would not make me feel sick too...

Any other suggestions please?

Hi
I am trying to judge the problem on the basis of lots of research in European Sexual Health Journals. In post orgasmic illness there is a cluster of symptoms like fatigue, laziness, sleep, feeling sick and pains in one part of body or all over. I shall be most happy if your problem gets sorted out by any other means. I have suggested what I learnt over a span of 28 years treating over 50000 patients
Good Luck

I appreciate your suggestion very much!! BUT: I told you we BOTH have the same problems... I can't have POS since I am a female...
and IF my husband had POS, he would be feeling sick all the times he ejaculates... but he doesn't. Only we we have an intercourse, not if he masturbates for instance.
It is only happening in this last year (though we have been married for 6 years)... and we both have "candida overgrowth-like" symptoms... it is definitely not related to POS... but it is something that is making us both sick.

I am really sorry to see that you have only one answer and that according to you there is nothing else beyond the post orgasmic syndrome.

I asked if according to you, I should do some vaginal testing and what type of testing.... but it seems like you have no answer to my sickness apparently.

Brief Answer:
I still find my previous disgnosis as correct

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Well, from infection angle, you can do vaginal swab for culture. Is the growth like a cauliflower and itchy? You may check for HPV. I am skeptical to think of your problem as due to infection because you have already checked for infections. You may share the reports or can tell which infections have been checked. Usually fungus overgrowth happens in immunodeficient persons like having Diabetes, Taking some medicines causing weakening of immune system. Some of the symptoms like numbing, mood swings, tingling are common with anxiety and believe me, most doctors around the globe miss anxiety as a co morbidity in a lot of long standing problems. In my view, the tests should be normal for all possible infections or even fungal overgrowth.

I appreciate your answers very much!

I am just trying to understand HOW from your point of view.... we would both suffer from anxiety (all of a sudden after so many years?)...

How could my husband have post orgasmic syndrome if masturbating does not make him sick?

And how could I have post orgasmic syndrome?

It is just very difficult to believe that we would both have exactly the same symptoms, that according to you are only related to anxiety. We can't both be anxious all of a sudden...

How is that possible? It is not an emotional "mental" disease. This is not like an imaginary disease... it definitely looks more like some type of bacteria...

but I really don't know where to look.

If I had HPV, would my husband feel sick because I have HPV? Both of us at the same time??

Thank you again!

Brief Answer:
Try to assess yourself

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear
Emotional or mental diseases are NOT IMAGINARY DISEASES but actual dysfunctions of brain circuitry , causing reduced serotonin levels . There are many other explanations for emotional diseases which are well documented. It is very common that we find both partners having anxiety . I get loads of females complaining of vaginal infections with a bundle full of tests and treatments taken . Most get better when we work on psychological component. You are free to make a choice and get any test done, the great chance is it would be normal .

why I say people having physical symptoms may have psychological etiology ? It is because our brain interprets normal stimuli as either painful or troublesome due to increased neuronal sensitivity in thalamus so a sensation not bothering one person may be interpreted as abnormal . you can even see different brain activity by XXXXXXX scan in patients having anxiety I have suggested a simple solution- download these questionaires from the net-these are freely available and see if you fit in to these .

Good Luck

Dear Saatiish,
I tried the test multiple times..

Hamilton's: normal
Yale-Brown: scored 15 (mild OCD)

You are right about the tests that would most probably come out as normal.. that's is my fear: wasting money on exams that won't show anything wrong.

I just wish there was some test I could take to see if I have some health problems.

Find below a few suggestions

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I understand your concern about possible health problems but you have already undergone tests and wasting more money will be useless. I suggested a few tests for your husband I strongly suspect he has problems in hormonal levels
I suggest you to try Fluvoxamine CR 50 mg at night, raising to 100 mg after a week Try for 6 weeks , it will cost you pea nuts.
It is a prescription medicine and you may get them with the help of a local doctor. Adopt healthy life style of adequate sleep and exercise daily
Good luck

If my husband has problems in hormonal levels... I might have the same since I have the same symptoms... it would be just strange that we developed the same symptoms and problems exactly at the same time..

Thank you for your tips doctor!
