Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
Over-the-counter pain medicines, such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen should be effective for most neuralgia caused by shingles. However,it would be good to start antiviral therapy with acyclovir as well. In more refracter pain, corticosteroid may be used and last option are opioids it gabapentin. along with painkillers you should apply cold compresses and avoid scratching skin. cold showers may be beneficial as well. Feel free to ask further questions. Wish you good health. Regards
