Question : Hi Doctor, was treated for IBS in the months of May and XXXXXXX 2014. Underwent FESS surgery in July'14. These are my current issues: Discomfort in stomach and adhoc pricking/itching sensation in right horizontal and right upper side of the navel button and general discomfort overall stomach esp., during evening and night - Fullness/Bloating etc., Usually I go for Stool in the night and it is hard stool first instance but after about half an hour or hour later, I get the motion feeling and it will be bit loose. I feel slightly better after the stool is passed. Other symptoms - Appetite is less. Feel full after meals. Feel terribly hungry if I don't have food on time and feel fatigue and tiredness thru the day. Got blood tests such as Fasting blood sugar, LFT, CBC and also abdomen ultrasound etc., about 4 months back and all were normal. I'm planning to go for MRI Abdomen with contrast XXXXXXX tomorrow just to rule out any issues. Is it safe? What's your view of my symptoms and also let me know your diagnosis and advice?I'm getting tired of using medicines. Irrespective of cost, are there any tests such as endoscopy or colonoscopy or any other that you would suggest which would pin point the issue. Thanks.

Also, I cant hold the stool for while. If I try to hold on, I terribly feel jittery till I pass the stool.

Brief Answer:
Reassure Yourself it is IBS

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing in
The symptoms speak for themselves, it is classic IBS and the primary treatment for you would be to manage your stress levels

All reports will surely be normal

Yet on a safer side get your stool examined for any infection or infestation by parasites

Feeling terribly hungry if food not taken on time has been observed with patients with IBS but I have one classic observation gluten free diets have helps patients control these symptoms

MRI is safe, I would suggest you refrain from further tests and concentrate on your stress

Take a good probiotic for minimum of six weeks twice a day and if need be a good antibiotic as per stool reports

Hope this helps

Thank you for your advice. I have few questions 1. As there could be different stool tests, what test should I specifically ask for in diagnostic centre 2. Heard Yakult is a probiotic available in market. Is it ok to take this twice a day or should I take Econorm capsules twice daily which I've taken over 2 months during XXXXXXX and July.

Brief Answer:
Stool Routine Microscopic & Culture Sensitivity

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for your followup

Ask your lab to perform Stool Routine Microscopic & Culture Sensitivity.

We preferably do not recommend commercial products.
Econorm is good.

Am sure it would have helped you.
It is better to repeat it for two to three weeks and refrain from taking any contaminated street food and drinks.

Do revert back with the reports
Regards
