Suggest Treatment For Profuse Sweating, Diarrhea And Fever

Posted on Mon, 1 Aug 2016
Question: Hello. About two weeks ago i came down with a stomach virus. I had a fever, headache, and awful diarrhea. I had heavy night sweats while sick. On the day I felt better I had night sweats so bad I had to change my clothes. I recovered from the stomach virus after 4 days. My night sweats never disappeared. They stopped for a consecutive 3 nights and i thought that was the end of them, but have been happening everynight since. Its been 2 weeks of night sweats. They usually only happen on my head and neck, but my pillow is soaked from them. My room is air conditioned and its very cool in my room, so i know i am not sweating from heat. My night sweats occur about an hour or so after i fall asleep. They always wake me up. I feel fine in the day, but im exhausted from not getting a full nights rest from the night sweats. Im from the usa, but live in Vietnam. I went to a doctor here and she took my cbc. Everythinng was fine, somethings were a little high, but nothing she was concerned about. She said its just a cold. Im 23 years old and am nervous about what is happening. When looking on the internet you see nothing but serious illnesses caused by night sweats. I havent had unprotected sex with anyone so id imagine its not HIV. I am worried its lymphoma, but am unsure how to know what is causing this. I am afraid to fall asleep each night because i know i will wake up with more sweats.

Brief Answer:
Wait for few weeks before getting investigated again

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Night sweats may be caused by lymphoma, tuberculosis, hyperthyroidism, drug related and idiopathic.
You recently suffered viral infection and this may be the reason for night sweats.
Abdominal complains are also a part of tuberculosis with associated night sweat, low grade evening rising fever and weight loss.
You can wait for few weeks and if any of the above symptoms appear or night sweats persists then get evaluated in detail.
Get blood counts repeated with general blood picture for abnormal lymphocytes, ultrasound abdomen and Thyroid profile.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
