Detailed Answer:
Hi Shriniwasrdy06,
Thanks fir the query. I undrrstand your concern.
Psoriasis is an autoimmune disorder.. that causes Irritation of skin to have accelarated cell growth/scaly itchy lesions (basic lesion)...It's a long running problem over many years /life long.
There are quick acting reliefs for flare ups ..which last for short periods/become useless after some time or is habit forming.(as you had observed)
It is known to be related to external triggers or psychological stress/trauma.
*So treatment is mainly objected to-
-Avoid triggers...Like physical or psychological stress or trauma.Have a balanced psychology by self control &meditations or
mind &body relaxations.
Manage triggering climatic changes(heat,cold)
Avoid cutss or bruises /infections
Avoid alcohol or smoking.
*local soothing regulatly with moisturisers/sunscreens as per need ,with local vitamin D cream plus steroids cream as &when flare ups (to be reduced &tappered off.
* ultraviolate treatment
* Oral medication as per need (methotrexate/steroid)with doctor's advise.
*healthy lifestyle with regular exercises, balanced diet with vitamins.
Thus a causious msnagement with skin specialist's guidance wouldbe needed to control the condition..with a hope that it goes away on it's
own.
I hope that helps you.any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Effective but to be used sparingly.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Shriniasrdy06,
Thanks for the query.
Yes both the things cosentyx &phototherapy
are known to have good chances of healing psoriasis...
* Cosentyx is an immunosupressant drug &it offers about 75 %to 90% clearance of skin flare ups witin 3 months of therapy.About 40% of these continue to have the positive effect till 2 years of daily drug administration.
But the drug has side effects of severe allergic attacks/severe &repeated infections ..specially TB../ auto immune bowel diseases like crohn's or ulcerative colitis may flare up etc.
*Phototherapy is given with UVB phototherapy(source & time of exposure to be advised & adjusted by an expert)..the rays penetrate deep in skin & and slow down growth of skin. It is advised in severe plaque psoriasis with wide spread &multiple lesions.Treatment needs to be given several times in a week till the flare ups clear.About 20 hospital treatments suffice on an average.
But... after recovery skin needs to be checked up once or twice a year.. for skin damage or cancer.
**You would now understand that though the results are promising ... the treatments are to be started after an expert advise &care only.
I hope that answers your query. Any follow up query is welcome.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
please read the steps of management of acute flares of psoriasis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Shriniwasrdy06,
Thanks for asking.
Treating flare ups is a real challange in management of psoriasis....advent of some of the triggering factors starts the process of cell growth in skin which forms plaques ..dry scales &severe itching starts... to increase depression..anxiety &psychological stress ... which in turns triggers the problem &vicious circle goes on.
- Management of the acute flare ups therefore starts with prevention by avoiding triggering factors (discussed previouly)
-To break the process of cell growth ,dried plaques &itching...
First line of management consists of use of heavy moisture holding creames (moisturizers without fragrance ). Addition of vitamin D skin creme to the moisturizer&a dot of steroid creme ..with the physician's advice would help.
avoiding use of hard shampoos /soaps with strong fragrance &alcohol/adding oil to bath water, using XXXXXXX warm water &restricting time of bath to 10-15 minutes.
Addition of omega 3 fatty acids/retinoids in diet help in reducing inflammation.
-Continuing medicines advised by your doctor to start with helps in flare control.
-In case there is no relief... expert may advise for immunodepressants/phototherapy (discussed previouly)
A delicate balance between life style changes&medical advise forms a way to prevent/treat acute flareups &also mske the disease bearable & many a times
get cured over the time.
I hope that helps you. Any more information you want please feel free to sdk.
