Question : I had a pedicure done 3 days ago at a salon I have never been to before. The nail technician ripped out my ingrown toenail (and by ripped out I mean ripped out not cut). Yes it hurt but I didn't think anything of it. She acted as if my reaction were normal. Now my big toe is puffy, red, swollen and oozing with pus in the crease of my toenail. Should I see medical attention or is this treatable at home. At this time of day I will have to go to the ER. Thank you
Brief Answer:
It may indicate infection
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM. Thanks for the query.
These sign may be sign or periunguilar infection, and you should see GP to start antibiotic course(amoxicillin). However this is not emergent case and you can try to treat it at home at this point. but if symptoms progresses you need to see surgeon. Till that, try to at least 3x per day, have foot baths in warm slty water for 20minutes. Cover your toe with sterile bandages, avoid long standing or walking.
Wish you good health.
Regards
