Pulmonary Sarcoidosis (lungs )
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX
As you mentioned that after biopsy diagnosis is established and now it is the treatment .
In brief about sarcoidosis in lungs ,known as pulmonary sarcoidosis .
However , different doctors have their own choice of treatment depending on severity of symptoms and condition of patient .
This is a standard regime for PULMONARY SARCOIDOSIS.
Oral corticosteroids are the mainstay in the treatment of pulmonary sarcoidosis :
-Treatment w/oral corticosteroids usually results in improvement of lungs symptoms , lung function studies & chest X-ray findings
.Reappearance of symptoms & chest X ray abnormalities are FREQUENT after discontinuation of treatment.
-A meta-analysis concluded that corticosteroid use in pulmonary sarcoidosis results in improvement of chest X ray & spirometry over 6-24 months , but there is minimal proof of improvement in lung function.
=It is not clear that whether these improvement are maintained beyond 2 years.
=It is not known whether corticosteorid improve long-tem pulmonary function or favorably alter disease progression .
-Corticosteroid use should be reserved for those w/clear clinical indication because of
.The known potential toxicity of corticosteroids
.Lack of evidence of sustained benefit.
Above mentioned treatment is a standard treatment and OTHER pharmacological agents :
==Cytotoxic agents
May benefit pts who fail to respond to steroids.
Usually given in combination w/steroids but sometimes are given themselves.
==Azathioprine
==methotraxate
==Other agents as Chlorambucil.
Immunomodulators .
Follow up and monitoring of treatment is also important.
However above mentioned is in DETAIL , but it was necessary in your case before commencement of treatment for sarcoidosis ( lungs ).
Hope , you will recover soon.
Further any question I will reply in follow up.
Good luck.
