Brief Answer:
Information

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

If the nail punctured and penetrated the skin, then if you have not had a tetanus booster in the last 10 years, you should go in to a clinic or doctor for one.

But if there was no puncture, there is no need for any shots.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.

Hi.

There was no puncture as you can see in the attached pic , just a dot of blood which just came out when i pressed that area , well i had shots 11 years back . That area is just pinching but no pain and nail didnt go in a that was just lying on main buildings ourside main door , by the way what wxactly do you mean by puncture ?

Brief Answer:
puncture wounds

Detailed Answer:
A puncture wound is one where something went in through the skin, usually fairly narrow rather than a wide open cut. If a nail went into the skin head on, that would create a puncture wound.

The reason we are concerned about tetanus with a puncture wound is that there isn't a lot of oxygen exposure in this type of wound, and that makes conditions good for tetanus spores to germinate and cause infection.

I can't tell entirely from the picture, but it does not look like there was any depth of penetration of the nail.
