Suggest Treatment For Pus Filled Lipoma

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Apr 2015
Question: I had a swelling and doctor who diagnosed it as lipoma and gave antibiotics drug and ointment. Three days afterwards pus came out of the different pores on the swellings. Is that the end of lipoma as I feel relieved or do I still need surgery as there is still a lump underneath my skin.

Brief Answer:
It cannot be a lipoma...it was likely an abscess!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry so sorry to hear about this lipoma that you have reported. I have reviewed your information fully and this is not suggestive of a lipoma. Lipoma are never treated with antibiotics and there is usually no pus inside. Lipoma means a collection of fatty tissue.

A lipoma is only treated if you think you don't like the look or it is causing some pain. If you have no problem and feel very relieved, there may be no need and no emergency in getting it operated upon even if it were a lipoma. A lipoma can never become cancer as well.

For how long did this take to develop? Lipomas would grow slowly over several years and are generally painless until they are very big.

I hope this helps. If possible, upload an image also for review and more insights. If you have any further unanswered concerns, feel free to request for clarifications and more information.

I have this lump on my neck for about 2years without any pain and I suddenly experienced pain recently. I also looked up lipoma online and a lot of people said pus eventually came out of it. What becomes of the lump that I still feel in my skin

See below!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

If for era there was a lipoma there, then what happened is an infection that has nothing to do with a lipoma. Antibiotics never treat lipoma. It might have been an infection on an area that already has a lipoma and in this case an abscess.

If the lump causes no worries to you, there is no need to rush for any surgery. Take your time and let the infection get fully resolved. Also, no doctor would want to operate on an infected site. So, there is no need to get very worried at this time.

If there are any more worries, am here to respond. Until next, I wish you well.

Dear doctor, you said the lump is an abscess that was infected and not lipoma. How did I get an abscess, why did the pain start suddenly after few years of having the lump?. What caused the infection? How did pus just form on a skin without the skin having a previous wound? Am worried

Brief Answer:
There are germs on the surface of the body at al times!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand you are worried. The world we live in is full of germs and it takes just a very small opening on the skin surface for the germ to get into the body and cause an illness. Each time there is pus, there is an infection. Pus really means bacterial infection.

That is why an antibiotic was of help. There is no reason to get worried as the condition has been taken care of. What remains is to assess the lump you have mentioned for further management. Like I mentioned before, it is not an emergency and can be addressed at just any time.

I will suggest you upload an image for review to me and I will get back to you with more thoughts and insights.

I wish you well.

Brief Answer:
For, let this be treated as an abscess!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have reviewed the images. For now, get this treated as an abscess. Take antibiotics and let the pus be pressed so that it would all come out and enable healing. Talking about lipoma should be something in the next several months an d not now.

I hope this helps. I wish you well.
