Question : My step daughter is in college and has a rash on the back of her legs. There are boils. She went nto the college clinic and they said she had a staph infection but caught it early enough that it was not contagious. They prescribed her Muciprocin ointment usp 2%. She said that the larger boils and parts of her skin on the back of her legs are numb. Should she be concerned? She is not running a fever (98), actually a little below. She is worried about the numbing but did not know if this was a normal thing.

Brief Answer:
It does not seem concerning

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through the description and understand your concerns. It seems that the doctor at her college clinic has rightly suggested it to be a Staphylococcal infection and that mupirocin ointment is to be applied. Since she does not have fever, I would not be worried. But about the numbing, could you please explain in some more detail? I am not sure if it is normal. An image of the affected area(s) would be helpful. You can upload it using the facility on the upper right of this page.

I will await your response.

She said the areas where the rash is feels numb, especially the boils. I was not sure if it was the cream or if it is because of the inflammation.

Brief Answer:
Does not look concerning to me

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

I have checked the attached images. It does not look concerning to me. The numbness could be due to the inflammation. It should gradually be fine. You need not worry.
