Question : I have a staph infection causing a serious rash on my legs. I have been on Prednisone for three days, and used a steroid cream on my legs several times (discontinued at the moment), and am improving. The doctor now wants to add cephalexin to combat the staph, but I want to know if my own immune system can do it. I'm a male, 50, not very active, but generally healthy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I read carefully your query.
Since you have a bacterial infection of the skin ,caused by Staphylococcus you need to take an antibiotic.
You say that your skin rash was serious and this is the reason why your doctor is recommending the antibiotic.Your immune system can fight the infection but the antibiotic will prevent complications , recurrences and it will reduce the time needed for complete recovery.
Hope it helps.
Please feel free to ask for every question you might have.
