Question: my 3 year old daughter has a loud, sharp, dry cough and raspy breathing, difficulty sleeping. Any suggestions as to what it is and what I should do for her?

Hi...I have just gone through the history points you have provided. You say that the raspy breathing and the dry cough have come on suddenly.

These symptoms fit into acute croup or acute laryngotracheobronchitis.

What you are doing right now is just fine. Keep her the most comfortable position./

But she needs evaluation by a physician or pediatrician. Sometimes this condition might require Adrenalin nebulization and oxygen too.

I suggest you take her to the nearest emergency room as soon as possible.
