Posted on Mon, 13 Oct 2014
Question: The gum of my teeth (front) has receded to a level it has reached the bottom of the teeth and it hurts very much now. I have not consulted a dentist yet so far. There is tartar buildup on the front and back. What would be the possible route of treatment - options - here. Also what should I do immediately since I can only consult a doctor latest by Monday.

Brief Answer:
Go for scaling followed by flap surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for writing in.

Regarding deposit of tartar you should go for scaling.
Due to receding gums your nerves have got exposed resulting in sensitivity.
In such case you have two options:-
1. Go for periodontal flap surgery which includes building of gingival flap in that area.
2. Go for Root Canal Treatment followed by capping.

You need to consult a dentist & go for clinical evaluation & go for option whatever suits your teeth.

Meanwhile you may start with analgesic & desensitizing tooth paste.

Hope I answered your query

Wishing you good health

1.Is the flap surgery an inpatient routine or an outpatient one? Will it require hospitalization? How long would it take to be done and for it to heal up? Can you give an approximate average cost for the same as well?

2. As for descaling - is it mecharnical in nature (Eg: vibration / doctor operated manual equipment) or can something like ultrasonic/ laser options be there? Asking because mechanical vibrations can further cause an issue of sorts since the shape of the gum aint all that good as of now.

Brief Answer:
Flap surgery is outpatient & scaling is vibratory

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Flap surgery does not require hospitalization but follow up is required.
Regarding cost you need to consult periodontist.
Scaling involves vibratory strokes & its ultrasonic in nature. But it is only procedure to remove tartar.
Consult periodontist for further treatment plan.
