Question : I have had rectal pain for about 2 weeks now. It started with some bleeding and the bleeding has only happened once. The pain subsides throughout the day but when i have a bowel movement usually in the mornings within a few seconds the pain starts up again. Ive been using creams and that helps along with ibuprofen. I also have a sit down job and i have pain throughout the day unless i stand up. When i exercise though that also helps the pain.. I have no history of rectal cancer but was wondering if this could possibly hemorrhoids or a fissure

Brief Answer:
meet a surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX, welcome to HCM and thanks for choosing us.

I have gone through your history in detail. Your suspicion is right about fissures or haemorrhoids. In my opinion you have anal fissures. It a ulcer in anal canal due to injury by hard stools.

You need to visit a surgeon for examination and treatment. Treatment will include SITZ bath, anaesthetic ointments, pain killers, stool softeners . Take few days rest from work if you can.

I hope my reply will help you. Please write to us for more information and any follow up question. I wish you good health and rapid recovery. Thanks

If i end up and do surgery for a fissure (if thats what it is) is it a easy surgery with quick recovery time and are the success rates good?

Brief Answer:
it's a simple and short surgery

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX, welcome again and thanks for the follow up question.

Majority of the patients recover with the treatment I have suggested earlier. Now a days surgery is rarely performed for fissure. However if your condition doesn't improve with this and it becomes a chronic problem, you may require a surgery called sphincterectomy. It is a simple and short surgery. You will need rest for a week. This surgery has good success rate. Only complication is anal incontinence.

I hope my reply will help you. Please feel free to contact us for more information. I wish you good health. Thanks
