Suggest Treatment For Recurrent UTIs After Intercourse

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Jul 2015
Question: Hi, I have recurring UTIs after intercourse. I have my usual symptoms now (cloudy urine and odor, urgency). But this time, I also have blood in my urine. I have a 130 pm MD appointment with my GP tomorrow. Is it ok to wait until then? If not, would an 815 AM urgent care appointment be ok? I do not have any back or side pain, fever or chills. What could the blood in the urine indicate?

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are due to UTI (Cystitis)

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have Acute UTI (Cystitis).

In view of repeated episodes of UTI it is better you get it investigated to find out the route cause of source of infection .

Please consult qualified Urologist for clinical examination and get following basic tests done to establish diagnosis.
1) Routine urine tests and Urine culture to find out organisms causing this infection and their sensitivity pattern.
2) Ultrasound Scanning of abdomen and pelvis.

In the mean while you can take antibiotic like Cefixime along with Notrofuarantoin twice daily with urine alkalizer thrice daily.Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotic as per culture report.

Ensure to drink more water to keep your urine dilute .This will help to reduce dysuria.

In view of you getting UTI after sexual intercourse it is advisable that your husband also gets investigated to rule out any source of infection like Prostatitis .

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask me I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.
