Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Chest Congestion And Fever

Question: Hi, I am 67 year old female.(Indian) I am active and have no major illness but recently I am getting chest congestion , cold & slight fever with severe body pain which lasts for over 10 days- then by the time I get back to my normal self it appears again within another 3-4 weeks- this is making me very dull, weak, disinterested in any work. (I was given a course of Augmentin-625 twice)
Present complaint: I feel a very uncomfortable sensation in my body from time to time- like chill & pain especially in legs often when I go to bed at night.
Feel unwell with bodyache when I wake up which slowly fades away as I get on to my routine chores.
My medical history for ref:
1. Arthritis
2. Hypothyroidism- (this too is now under control) last week's test result shows- T3-130, T4-8.56 & Ultra TSH - 3.26- (CLIA method)
3. Severe Enteric Fever in 2012- after which I have never felt as active & well as before.
4. Sciatica- rt side.
Medication Taken:
* SUPRACAL PRO - 1 A DAY
* ECOSPRIN AV-75 -1 A DAY
* ELTROXIN- 50mg -1 A DAY
* BECOSULE (B Complex Forte + Vit C) 1 A DAY

You are mostly having viral URTI.

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic. I can understand your situation and problem.
By your history and description, possibility of viral infection is more.
Viral upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) is more likely in your case.
Viral infection causes generalised weakness, body pain, fatigue, lethargy etc.
And this lasts for almost 3 weeks.
In addition to drugs you are taking, start antihistamines and anti inflammatory drugs.
Also start electral powder. Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep yourself hydrated.
Don't worry, you will be alright.

I shall start on medication advised.

The Sciatica pain & lower back pain is on the increase past few days especially when I step out of home, finding it difficult to walk on the road. Now the pain is extending till my neck.

Dear Dr. Bhavsar,

Thanks for your response. I am not taking any medication for sciatica.

I do use the Belt but only when I have to be on my feet longer , walk longer & travel .

I only do a few stretching exercises, usually in the morning when I wake up though not very regular at it.
