Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Episodes Of Poor Motor Skills, Headache And Confusion

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Oct 2016
Question: I am 36 year old man.
I have been treated with anxiety of not being able to perform academically well, low self esteem, learning disability, poor spelling and headache 10 years ago. My life went smooth thereafter. But i am getting same feeling of fear and feeling of not able to be cured again.

10 years ago i had severe headache and anxiety/fear for poor language processing ability of reading/writing/speaking(though i was very good at all these ability) which turned into severe confusion and reduced understanding power which in turn created more fear and negative thoughts which i was unable to control. I used to feel continuous throbbing/pulsating in brain and wired sensation in thighs, feet and stomach. My life was hell at that time. But i was lucky to escape from this bad period after consulting neurologist and psychiatrist. It took me around 14 months to get out of the situation.

I started feeling the same anxiety of bad memories/confusion/poor work performance/continuous negative thoughts/forgetfulness/poor spelling/poor writing which i had 10 years before. When i feel fear, i feel throbbing/pulsating in brain and wired sensation in thighs, feet and stomach.

I was fearless just 1.5 months ago and started thinking of joining Ph.D. but now i have started getting same fear instead of enthusiasm/positive thinking.
Kindly give suggestion to REGAIN my understanding power/confidence/excellent skill reading-comprehension skills.

Brief Answer:
I think there is need to consult again to psychiatrist without delay

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I like to inform you that depression and anxiety are relapsing and remitting disorder and it is no XXXXXXX that it is having another episode after a gap of 10 years. In fact a single episode makes us vulnerable for any further episode even the slightest of trigger. I mean to say that current episode is extension of earlier illness and can be called second episode.

Having said this the available literature suggest that subsequent episode need more effort than the first episode if they extend to full blown episode. Since it is starting time I feel it will be better if we can seek consultation and start treatment as soon as possible. It is possible that you will need same set of medications. I must acknowledge that deterioration in understanding/reading and writing is part of depression and will respond with start of treatment.

I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards.

Thank you very much sir for your valuable suggestions.
In 2002, when i was in the final year of my graduation, i had a severe headache and i started feeling/FEAR of having reading/writing/learning disorder(Though i was very good at this skills) and i worried about my future. So, I started fighting with this fear or negative thoughts. I kept fighting with negative thoughts but i surged into severe state of confusion with no clear thinking which eventually reduced my understanding abilities. Finally, UNCONTROLLED FEAR/NEGATIVE THOUGHTS made me poor at reading/writing/learning. In fact, I felt as if chemical which keeps my brain happy, enthusiastic was missing in my brain.Fear turned me from brilliant student to poor student. I fought with negative thoughts for four years. Then I consulted neurologist and psychiatrist and i was cured in 12-14 months. MY life went smooth with full of zeal thereafter for 10 year. But again, I am getting similar feeling and i am struggling to come out of it. I sleep too much to escape from the negative thoughts and which makes me lazy. I also had weird sensation in my legs, feet and stomach.
My problem is neuro-psychiatric problem.
I experience headache with palpitation and throbbing in brain.
I am going to consult psychiatrist in next 2 days.
I need your valuable suggestions(in terms of exercises, food/supplements, drugs) to create zeal in my mind so that I can drive my mind rather than it is driven by negative thoughts.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for reverting back to me.

I am glad to know that you got benefitted from my previous answer and going to visit psychiatrist in next two days.

I am writing down few of the strategies that will help you in management of stress leading to reduction of your anxiety and negative thoughtss.

1. Diet: Ensure intake of adequate quantity of fiber. 2 servings of vegetable salad and 2 servings of fruits( One preferable citrus fruit). Avoid junk food and fast food.

2. Ensure adequate water intake: Follow rule of 1 which i usually advise. 1 glass of water 1 hour before and 1 glass of water 1 hour after every meals will ensure adequate consumption of water .

3. Early morning Exercise: Brisk walking for 30 minutes at a stretch preferably in garden will be very helpful.

4. Avoid tea/coffee/ nicotine and alcoholic beverages: If at all you want to drink something, drink fresh lime water. It is very much refreshing.

5. Start your day with a glass of Lemon water with 2 spoons of honey added.

6. Don't take work so seriously: We all have the feeling to excel in our respective fields and don't spend adequate time with our own self trying to understand our own needs.
Spend time with your family and friends.

7. While working take frequent regular breaks: Taking regular breaks will not waste the time, but it will definitely increase the productivity, concentration and reasoning. Take break for 5 minutes every 30 minutes.

8. Avoid late night socialization

9. Avoid starring for longer time at the computer screen or TV for longer time

10. Steam inhalation before going to sleep will be very refreshing.

11. Multivitamin and Calcium supplement.

12. Meditation and Yoga

Once you follow these principles of stress management you will see the difference in short time.

I hope this helps you further.
