When i ask the reason from the doctor, he says that it is due to weather change. And now he prescribed albendazole suspension along with cough syrup and crocin suspension. He said Cough can be due to worms in the body. I am unable to understand the connection between albendazole and cough.

Brief Answer:
Periodic deworming is advisable. Worms could give rise to allergic reaction

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Such symptoms in children of this age is usually caused due to certain viral infections which can last for 5-10 days. Some children are more prone to catching cold.

Worm infestation can give rise to an allergic response of the body as manifested by raised eosinophil count in blood. In such a case cough and cold could occur as a manifestation of the same. Although this is less likely to be the cause in case of your child, it is still recommended to go in for deworming on yearly basis since children of this age have a tendency to put anything in their mouth and hence could get worms. Since there is presence of cough, your doctor has rightly preferred to correct worm infestation if any. If it is due to an allergic response to the worms, your child should get relief, but not otherwise.

It is safe to give albendazole to a child of this age.

Hope that helps.
