Brief Answer:
Causes of boils listed

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
Folliculitis or boils is a bacterial infection which is common in hot and humid weather.
Its recurrence can be seen in patients of diabetes, pre existing dermatosis, immunosuppressed patients like those of HIV , patients having poor personal hygiene , those with low iron levels and those with increased carriage of the bacteria in the nostrils, perianal area and other sites.
HIV is a rare cause of recurrent folliculitis. Recurrent boils is usually associated with other conditions I have mentioned above.
There was no need to go for HIV testing if you are not having any risk factors.
There are very rare chances of this spreading to your wife. So no need to worry.
I hope to have answered your query and would be happy to clarify any further doubts.

To avoid frequent recurrences go for frequent hand washing and apply a topical antibiotic like mupirocin cream in the nostrils, external ears, finger and toe web spaces, umblicus, perianal area and arm pits twice daily for 6-8 weeks.
This will prevent recurrences.
Also maintain proper personal hygiene.
