Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Herniated Disc

default
Posted on Fri, 16 Jan 2015
Question: I have a recurrent herniated disc at L3-4 and L5-S1. My doctor said the L3-4 is "massive". I have had an ESI and a selective nerve block. The nerve block was 1 1/2 weeks ago. 3 days ago I started having a tingling sensation all over my body. It is intermittent and feels like I am attached to a TENS unit. When I lie down, all of my muscles start to cramp. I still have the right leg pain and will probably be scheduled for surgery to fix the herniation but this tingling sensation doesn't seem to be related. I have never experienced this before. Is this something that I should be concerned about? I sometimes have the sensation of being hit on the top of the head too. I started having tingling and numbness in the saddle region prior to both injections and went to the ER. They did a repeat MRI and it showed that the hernation was stable.

Brief Answer:
Can be electrolyte imbalance

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The tingling all over the body can be due to nerve related cause or decreased fluid intake with electrolyte imbalance and Vitamin B12 deficiency. You can start taking plenty of electrolyte rich fluids and fresh fruit juices. Do get methylcobalamin supplements prescribed. The sensations are not worrisome and should improve with these measures in next 2 weeks.
I hope this answers your query.
