Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Hives On The Body

Question: I've been breaking out in hives since Saturday afternoon. I didn't feel well Saturday morning and took a nap. When I woke, hives started appearing. Then Saturday night I got suddenly covered in hives. I took two Benadryl and they got better. Then Sunday morning I woke up and they came back. I went to urgent care and got a steroid shot and they got better. I woke up this morning and they came back. I just took 2 Benadryl and its helping but I am very dizzy when I stand. I don't have any food allergies that I know of and have never had hives before. I feel sick, but not a sore throat or normal UTI symptoms (but I've never had a UTI before). What could be wrong, and do I need to go back to a doctor? I'm in college so I don't really have one.

Brief Answer:
Take Cetirizine 10mg or Loratadine 10mg, increasing dose for up to 40mg/day

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

What you are describing seems typical allergy- hives and good reaction to benadryl.
You feel dizzy because of the effect of bendryl.

I would recommend to check carefully around and see what did cause you those hives and what are you allergic from- A new perfume, a new shampoo, detergent, cream, tried new food. If nothing has changes, then maybe you have been sensitivised and now are allergic to something.
You may do the allergy tests when possible to find out what makes you allergic.

For now, the treatment of hives is to take Cetirizine 10mg, up to 4 tablets per day, or Loratadine 10 mg, for 2 weeks. If they persist more then 2 weeks then you should see a local allergologist.

Hope this is helpful.
