Posted on Tue, 5 Jan 2016
Question: My sister had a surgery four months ago to remove a adeno sarcoma cancer, the surgery went well but she had ostomy bag as a result of the damage to her bladder etc. She was making progress with her recovery and all of a sudden she had pain and we found out that the cancer came back. The doctors at the hospital said there is nothing else they can do because it continues to come back and they also did not recommend any chemo because she is weak.
I don't believe there is nothing else that can be done so I am seeking any other suggestion there is out there for my sister. Help me please!

Brief Answer:
treatment of cancer depends on stage

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.
Iam Dr.Srilatha gynaecologist.I have gone through your query.Iam very sorry for your sister's condition.
In my opinion different cancers will have different prognosis and treatment protocols.
Usually cancer treatment is guided by staging of the cancer. So to proceed with the discussion I would like to know the stage of the cancer.

Stage 4 cancer with metastasis is usually dealt in a palliative fashion. So further surgeries are not advisable in stage 4 cancers.
So kindly let me know the details for further discussion.

Best regards...Dr.Srilatha

They did not say anything about stage except that it came back too soon after her operation and they can't guarantee that it will not come back again. they just gave her some hormonal treatment (Leuprolide), I am not sure what that does or does not do.

Brief Answer:
palliative treatment is suggested for advanced cases

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,thanks for the information.
I can understand your condition.
As per the information provided by you I can say that cancer is in advanced stage.
The hormonal treatment leuprolide is given to suppress the furthur spread of tumour.
But we cannot expect a complete cure with this hormonal treatment alone.
As per the information you given I understood that recurrence of cancer is very fast after the surgery.
Usually this kind of picture is seen in aggressive malignancies.
To my best knowledge palliative treatment is given in such cases to improve the quality of life.
If possible kindly upload the discharge summary.
Once again iam very sorry for the condition of your sister.
Feel free to discuss furthur.
Best regards...Dr.Srilatha
