Question : Hi, I have recently been on holiday to a hot country and have developed some irregular red rashes in patches on my back and abdomen.

They are itchy and become redder when showering.

I am using a topical steroid cream provided by the chemist but have not seen any improvement. Please could you confirm what this could be and any treatment options that I could try.

Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

I have gone through your query and I have noted down the complaints.

Based on your description, I will keep a tentative diagnosis of "Pityriasis Rosea".
Pityriasis rosea usually presents as red, scaly patches of skin on torso and proximal extremities.
Itching in P. Rosea is subjective and can be mild to moderate.

However, I would like to be more sure about my diagnosis after having a look at it. Therefore I request you to upload a few digital Images.

To upload an Image you may either go to "Reports section" and upload Images.

Or

You may also mail Images at YYYY@YYYY with the subject of mail as Attn: Dr Kakkar.

Also let me know more regarding the query

-I would like to know the duration since you have noticed the patches?

-Have they increased over time? in number and size?

-Since how long have you been using steroid cream?

-What is the active ingredient in steroid cream?

Regards
