Question: I have a reddish bruised looking rash between my shoulder blades. Some days more prominent than others. I have been experiencing increasing leg weakness over the last two years. Brief Answer:
Inflammation of nerve roots to consider.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Swelling of lumbar nerve roots in lumbar spine and increased metabolism in PET scan indicate inflammation of these nerve roots.

Infections ( viral, bacterial and tubercular ) may cause inflammation of these nerve roots, especially if there is compromise of immune system.

In rare cases, initial stages of lymphoma may result in such clinical and imaging studies findings.

Blood tests about infection, immune system status and probably spinal tap may be necessary even to exclude these conditions.

Discuss with your Neurologist about these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Greetings.
